As a non wii owner, I sometimes feel I’ve made a mistake by ignoring the console. This doesn’t happen often, mind you – usually it’s the latest released in one of Nintendo’s long lived first party franchises, the Mario and Zelda games that give me this feeling of regret.
So it’s pretty strange that a 3rd party title (published by Sega, in fact) has even made a blip on my radar. The game I refer to is MadWorld, the brutal action game, with Sin City inspired graphics. I feel very vague calling it an ‘action game’, but I’m unable to discern a more description genre – even visiting the official website just confuses me more:
To give you an example from gameplay, we have a scene where you can pull a street sign from the ground and shove it into a enemy’s head. However, I thought that it is much more fun to stab someone with a sign that actually has some sort of meaning as opposed to a knife. We tried the idea out, and the reaction amongst the team was so positive, I knew this was the way to proceed.
It doesn’t make much sense, but it gets the point across that this isn’t your grandma’s wii game.
But all this information is probably useless to me, as MTV Multiplayer is reporting that countries with a history of weak stomaches and strong video game censorship may not see the game. Unfortunately Australia (along with Germany and Japan) have been tagged as the prudes.
The official site notes that a Japanese release is currently undecided, so I guess time (and money) will tell if Sega will attempt to market MadWorld in other, more conservative regions.
